Artist Yuichi Yokoyama draws time using a technique called manga.
Last year he held a large solo exhibition “The complete neo manga of Yûichi Yokoyama: I draw time” at the Kawasaki City Museum, bringing him even greater recognition.
Yokoyama also attracted attention when his work was featured under the “Scenes from the Tsunami” category of the NY Times website after the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake [March 11th, 2011].
At the end of last year, did live painting for “Color Doboku” (English: Color Engineerings) at Tokyo gallery Nanzuka.
While Color Doboku also appeared in the magazine Studio Voice, Nanzuka and PictureBox will collaborate to publish the original images made for the magazine along with those created during the performance. The release date for the publication is set at late August.
Yokoyama painted new images for the gallery each day, with his daily performance posted on twitter so that those who went at the appropriate times could actually see him at work.
Cameras were also allowed in the gallery, so the audience was free to upload the images and videos they took to twitter or YouTube on the spot. As Yokoyama put it, “Please go ahead and take shots whenever you want and send the via mail or the Web.” As he stated, Yokoyama continued to paint in a totally open environment.
